“If you take a big ocean, and try to move valuable things across it, you need sailors. And if you take sailors and show them valuable things to move, it only takes so long before they decide that the ocean is a great big place for them to hide many valuable things, including themselves.”

~Governor Charlie Windell

Since the earliest trading days between the scattered continents, countries and communities of The Grand Sea, there have always been pirates. Being the natural result of legal naval abuse and an utter lack of potential prospects at home, countless hungry firebrands have taken to the seas in search of making their living, if not their killing. In a world of desperate sailors, fire-crazed zealots, sentient suits of armor, counterfeiting rats, flying mailmen, undersea legions and fitness-cult pinnipeds, there’s one universal law that even the outlaws have to respect: life is expensive.

After years of isolation, the little island of Amrestir is finally getting its recognition from the world at large. Unfortunately for the outlaws living there, this includes every piece of plank and plunder making up its shores. Now ambassadors from across the Grand Sea are drifting in to fight tooth, nail, feather, flipper and fin, for dominance of the town built on piracy.

To Pamela Marsson, a young con-artist and recent stowaway to Amrestir, it’s a golden opportunity to finally make a name for herself. When an ill-fated forgery scheme lands her straight in the middle of an international power-struggle, and an accidental business opportunity at the local magic institute, the shockwave of Pamela’s ambition may just send ripples across every edge of the ocean.

Eliza was comfortable with brewing away life in the thriving island city of New Amrestir, until the day a retired and fire-fueled sailor named Nemo stumbled through her coffee shop’s door. With a frame of brass and a heart to match, Nemo’s bright view on life burns hot enough to set Eliza’s own heart aflame.

Yet on the Grand Sea, still waters rarely stay calm for long. When an ill-fated voyage and a piratical plot threatens to tear the new couple apart, Eliza and Nemo must face the ghosts of not only their own pasts, but those haunting the sea as well. Can the embers of their love survive the storm, or will their future together be left to rot away?
